UroLift is a minimally invasive treatment for men with benign prostate enlargement, offering symptom relief without the need for traditional surgery involving cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue.
The UroLift procedure is designed to improve urinary flow while preserving sexual function, providing a swift recovery and effective outcomes for suitable patients of Mr Rahim Kaba.
UroLift FAQs
What is UroLift therapy?
UroLift therapy uses small, permanent implants to hold the enlarged prostate tissue away from the urethra, relieving obstruction and allowing urine to flow more freely.
The procedure involves using a camera to guide the placement of tiny UroLift implants on each side of the prostate (typically 4 to 5 in total). These implants act like curtain tie-backs, pulling back the obstructing prostate tissue without cutting or removing tissue.
It is usually performed under local or light general anaesthetic and typically takes around 30 minutes. Most patients can return home on the same day, with a quick recovery and minimal downtime.
Who is a suitable candidate for the UroLift procedure?
The UroLift System may be suitable for men with enlarged prostate who have moderate urinary symptoms that have not responded well to lifestyle changes or medication.
It can be beneficial for patients that wish to preserve sexual function, including ejaculation, and who’d
prefer a minimally invasive option with a fast recovery.
During your consultation, Mr Kaba will assess your prostate size, symptoms, and overall health to determine if UroLift is the right procedure for you.
What is the difference between Aquablation therapy and UroLift?
While Aquablation and UroLift are both effective treatments for benign prostate enlargement, Aquablation uses waterjet technology to remove excess prostate tissue, while UroLift holds back tissue without removal.
UroLift is typically used for small to moderate prostate enlargement, while Aquablation is effective for larger prostates. Both treatments are designed to preserve sexual function.
During your consultation, Mr Kaba will discuss both options with you, helping you to choose the treatment that best aligns with your symptoms, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
